Charles River Residents Assemble Care Packages for Troops
Eddie Wencis, Residential Cluster Director, knows firsthand
how important mail call can be. A Navy
Seabee for eight years before coming to Charles River, Eddie was stationed in
many places including Spain, Iraq and Afghanistan, and his mother would send him
care packages filled with notes and goodies from the States, almost every week.

So upon coming to the agency three years ago, Eddie started
a program for Charles River homes to create care packages for those serving overseas. Residents of the homes visit local stores to
shop for the items, such as notepads, toiletries, gum, candy bars, and then
take great care in making thank you cards to accompany the contents.
A few weeks ago Eddie delivered a shipment of 12 boxes to the USO in Boston. The packages will be delivered overseas, and are most likely bound for soldiers who aren’t receiving much mail.
Anna S., a resident of Highland Avenue, enjoyed the experience. “I really liked putting the care packages together. It made me feel excited, proud and wonderful. I think the soldiers will like them and it will make them really happy!”
